When the Spark Feels Dim

Jul 16, 2026

Sometimes it feels hard to keep going.

If you've ever poured your heart into something you believe in, you probably know the feeling. You show up. You do the work. You create. You hope. And sometimes you wonder if any of it is making a difference.

I think we all have seasons like that. When those thoughts begin to creep in, I try to come back to what I know instead of getting caught up in what I fear.

I know that creativity has been one of the greatest gifts in my life.  It has been there through seasons of joy and seasons of uncertainty. During my breast cancer journey, creativity became more than something I enjoyed. It became a place to pause, to breathe, to express what I couldn't always put into words, and to find moments of hope.

That's why I believe so deeply in making time to create.  Not because creativity makes life's challenges disappear, but because it gives us a way to move through them. It reminds us that even when life feels uncertain, we still have the ability to make something beautiful, meaningful, and true.

Whenever I'm feeling discouraged, I try to return to the creative process. Not to make something perfect. Not to make something worthy of sharing. Simply to reconnect with myself.

Sometimes that's all we need.

A blank page.

A little paint.

A favorite song.

A walk with a camera.

A handful of colored pencils.

One small creative moment can remind us that we are still growing, still learning, and still moving forward.

If your own spark feels a little dim right now, I hope you'll give yourself permission to create today. Not because you have to. Because you deserve the gift of reconnecting with yourself.

Sometimes the smallest creative act is the one that helps us find our way back.
